Word of mouth
Posted by Debra in Advertising, Internet Marketing, tags: Advertising, flash, marketingDoes most of your business come from “word of mouth”? When working with small business owners in developing their marketing strategy one of the questions we ask is: “where does your new business come from?” Often “word of mouth” is cited as a major source. Sometimes I think business owners say this because they believe that “word of mouth” doesn’t cost them anything. Or they believe that their company has a certain cachet of history or reputation.
But the truth is that “word of mouth” still needs to come from somewhere – it doesn’t just magically appear.
The reality is: “word of mouth” – happens because businesses have websites and marketing campaigns that let prospects know who they are and what valuable services and products they offer. Additionally some businesses manage to deliver successful campaigns in a way that excites prospects into passing on the information – hence “word of mouth”.

Most word of mouth is created or amplified by effective marketing campaigns such as advertising, PR events, sales people, direct mail, websites and so on. The most engaging and effective marketing campaigns deliver messages via an assortment of media platforms. It’s the combination and variety that makes the message stronger, more engaging and sticky.
